Tea chest in highly figured rosewood of architectural form by R Dalton of the Bazaar, Soho Square. The chest is finely inlaid with mother of pearl which depicts stylized flora ; the chest is standing on turned rosewood feet having turned drop handles. Inside the tea chest there are two liftout hinged canisters (retaining most of their original leading) and a particularly fine cut lead crystal bowl. Circa 1835 Enlarge Picture TC581: A curvaceous Chinese export lacquer tea chest with undulating sides decorated with two colours of gold depicting scenes of of Oriental life opening to a single compartment containing two lidded pewter tea canisters with supplementary inner lids, the whole chest standing on feet in the form of dragon heads. Circa 1840. Enlarge Picture TC572: A mahogany veneered tea chest of bombe shape with rope twist banding, containing three lidded metal canisters. Note the exceptionally good patina. A tea chest of similar form was auctioned in 1984 bearing the label Braithwaite. This name is consistent with recorded makers in London and York at the correct date. Enlarge Picture Enlarge Picture TC566: Monumental three canister tea chest in figured rosewood on a mahogany carcass with mother of pearl inlay standing on turned rosewood feet having turned rosewood drop ring handles. The shape of this chest combines elements and influences characteristic of the nineteenth century. It is structured in an ancient Egyptian architectural form combining tapered and pyramid lines which make this caddy a strong statement of the robust and elegant style of the Regency. The composition of the top is strong. The inlaid mother of pearl inlay panels are set off by a further stringing of white-metal. (pewter). circa 1830. TC541: Inlaid mahogany two compartment tea caddy circa 1790. The top and front have central oval marquetry medallions depicting conch shells. Inside there are two compartments with supplementary lids with turned bone pulls. in the 18th century manner the lids do not have supports but would be expected to sit on the tea. The orchestration of the inlays is complex. The top has the central cartouche inlaid in a panel of well figured flame mahogany. This is framed by inlaid stringings in light and dark woods and a cross banding of mahogany. the caddy is edged in boxwood having facings to the bottom and the lid. The caddy stands on cast gilded brass feet. Enlarge Picture TC538: 18th century tea caddy veneered in figured walnut and having a brass carrying handle and escutcheon. Inside he caddy has one compartment which is lined with lead foil. However there is evidence that the caddy had three compartments previously. Circa 1770. The hinged top and large sides inlaid with marquetry medallions. The front cartouche depicts a rose in bud. the top a patera executed using the hot sand method. The cavetto molding is decorated with repeating palmette in a fluid hand more suited to the overall design of the caddy than the more rigid neo classical . Inside there are two lidded compartments still retaining remnants of their original leading. The caddy retains its original hardware such as hinges lock and embossed brass ring handles in the form of baskets of flowers. circa 1830.
