Burr Chestnut Tea Chest, Circa 1815.
A burr chestnut  three compartment tea caddy/chest of bombe shape, pyramided top with turned drop handles.

13" wide.

 Circa 1815.

Front view.
The grain pattern of burr chestnut is particularly interesting.
Detail: turned chestnut drop ring handle.

Inside there are two lift out canisters and a central cut  crystal bowl.

The hinges on the canisters are a replacement.

The inside of the lid is lined with rushed velvet punctuated with pompoms.

The canisters still retain their original leading.
Detail: hand blown and cut bowl.

For the historical context of this caddy read the relevant part of Antigone's Online Antique Box Book. If you click here you will go there.
