A Brazilian Rosewood Writing Box with Brass Corners and
Bindings Circa 1840.
The box is veneered
with thickly cut well figured rosewood on a construction of mahogany.

The top showing the figure and the shaped inlaid central plaque.
The writing surface is a replacement embossed leather. The rosewood surround of
the leather is also a restoration.

Inside the lower part is a compartment for papers.
Top compartment showing another space for papers and pen tray. Below the pen
tray is a hidden compartment.
The sprung flap is released by inserting a rod into a small hole at the bottom
of the inkwell compartment. There are two rosewood faced secret drawers.

The drawer can be pulled out when the brass rod is pulled
up.
