Antique Figured Rosewood box with lift-out compartmentalized tray and sprung drawer fitted for jewelry. There are mother of pearl escutcheons to the top and the front. There is a ruched velvet pad in the lid with mirror framed with gold embossed leather behind. It is released by pressing behind the lock catch. The sprung drawer is released by pressing on a button in the centre of the back facing. The lift-out tray is of mahogany construction with rosewood facings. New pads of velvet have been made to make the tray suitable for jewelry. There is further space beneath. Circa 1850. Penwork table cabinet with curved Regency shape. The penwork depicts exquisite chinoiserie scenes of figures in the fantastical gardens of Cathay. The compartmentalized interior was fitted for jewelry in the 19th Century. The hinged doors open to four drawers with turned bone handles. The upper part was originally fitted for sewing. The divisions retain their original pink lining paper. The domed top and flared skirted base are unusual. The colors are particularly rare. The decorated in penwork, depicts stylized representations of fantastical flowers and leaves. The penwork is within the tradition of fabric design which was popular during the 18th century. JB505: Rosewood box which combines style with elegance. Circa 1825. Enlarge Picture JB508: A very fine brass edged and inlaid figured rosewood box , working Bramah lock, and having the Amorial crest for Fraser. The foliated borders are exceptionally well designed and executed with looping stems arranged in a mirror image fashion. The two sides of the pattern are separated by a palmette motif. The palmette is repeated as the central motif on the sides of the front of the box. The corners are inlaid with squared leaf designs. The severity of the lines, the arrangement of the design and the palmettes, are rooted in the neoclassical tradition. The box has a compartmentalized leather and velvet lined interior with liftout tray. There is a hidden compartment with an unusual secret release mechanism. The box also also has a drawer fitted for jewelry which is secured shut by both a brass pin and a lock. Circa 1820. Enlarge Picture JB509: Inlaid maple Tunbridge ware box with a central book-matched medallion in burr yew, framed by by a formal design of delicate foliage, suggesting the Grecian laurel or myrtle wreath and further framed by cross bandings. Inside the box has a liftout tray with two supplementary lids also with inlay. The edges have an inlay in alternating maple and rosewood. The box is labeled by Thomas Woolfield, Manufacturer, No. 71 & 72, CHURCH STREET LIVERPOOL. Inside the box retains its original embossed leather silk and velvet linings. Enlarge Picture JB446: Figured rosewood and brass surround box circa 1830. A box veneered in figured rosewood box strengthened and accented with brass. The top central plaque bears initials in a stylized Gothic script and a coronet, probably of French nobility. There is also a brass inset of a lift-up aid on the front part of the lid. The box has extra support hinges on the sides which enable it to stay open at the same angle. The interior tray is original as is the silk faced ‘envelope’. JB424 A shaped box decorated all over with chinoiserie in penwork inspired by Stalker and Parker and Pillement. The box has an added liftout tray. The hand is that of an enthusiastic amateur and the whole composition has the curious charm of surprise. The different designs are arranged like scraps, without any thought for relevant size, a rabbit for example dwarfing a boat. circa 1820. The box has a superior hinge which deals with the weight of its size. When open it is supported by rounded links within the hinges. The box has been fitted with two lift out trays. The inside facings of the box are also enhanced with fine brass stringing. The hinge is most unusual, of a rounded form reminiscent of the Scottish hinge structure. The interior retains its original leather covered tray which has had velvet covers added to the bottom of the sections. A removable velvet cover has also been made for the back lid. The pattern of the decoration is controlled and symmetrical but it also swirls in the more naturalistic style of the later 19th century. The motifs are of stylised flora which is accented with centres of darker abalone shell. The box has a spring-out side drawer covered in original silk. The interior has been fitted with another tray. The back lid retains its original drop down envelope compartment covered in original ruched velvet. Small repairs and minute losses to mother of pearl visible under close scrutiny. The box has a working lock and key. Circa 1870. Enlarge Picture JB420: Brass bound French ebonized box by L. Aucoc aine, Paris with inlaid armorial Achievement for Bingham/ Pemburton/ Chaldicott. The box has a working Bramah lock, opening to a leather and silk covered compartmentalized interior. There are compartments and small containers which fit snugly into their allotted spaces. There is also a ‘secret’ sprung drawer. Everything is covered in original leather and silk. The hinge is heavy allowing for the weight of the box. It also has the self supporting structure which helps the heavy lid stay open.  Circa 1860. JB411: Box veneered is strongly figured coromandel and bound with continuous brass straps foe strength and dramatic contrast. Circa 1850. Enlarge Picture JB412: Victorian box veneered in figured walnut and decorated with straps of geometric inlay in a Greek pattern. The inlay is executed in ebony and fruitwoods with the wide strips in cross-cut kingwood. The box has a sprung side drawer with two partition strips covered in the original leather. The top part has the original lift-out tray to which velvet covers have been added to the bottom parts of the partitions. The inside of the lid has a spring out mirror which can be clicked in place either on the mirror or the velvet covered side. The velvet is original as is the leather framing on both the mirror and the ruched velvet. This is further enhanced with a delicate line and corner motif decoration in gold. The escutcheon and central plaque are centred in mother of pearl. Working lock and key. Minute cracks and tiny corner repairs. Circa 1875. Enlarge Picture JB413: Antique George the fourth period box veneered in rosewood and edged in rounded brass for strength and contrast with the dark wood. It also has flat brass carrying handles on both sides. It has a lower jewellery drawer with a separate working lock and key which retains its original leather cover and velvet lining with a ring compartment. The top part of the box has been fitted with an extra lift-out tray. The box has two working locks and keys. Circa 1830. Enlarge Picture JB414: Early Victorian box veneered in rosewood and bound with brass straps and unusually shaped brass corners which soften the formality of the brass with a gently rounded curve. The interior and the lift-out tray are covered in the original wine-coloured leather. Under the tray the space is further compartmentalised with original leather covered separations. The back lid envelope pouch is again covered in the original leather and decorated with a gold embossed pattern of palmettes. Working lock and key. Circa 1835-40. The structure is strengthened and enhanced with rounded brass. The original interior retains its original leather-covered tray and purple lining. JB404: Antique mid Victorian box with curved top, veneered with highly figured walnut and having mother of pearl and abalone inlay to the to and at the escutcheon. The inside has been refitted with a lift-out tray and is lined with velvet and hand made marbled paper. The box has a working lock and key. Circa 1860. Enlarge Picture JB405: Early 19th century box veneered in dark figured rosewood and decorated with cut steel pins. The steel was cut in the manner of precious stones and on this box it was arranged in a neoclassical pattern of symmetrical scrolls centred by a palmette motif. Cut steel work was popular for a short period of time during the late 18th century and the early 19th century. The work which is laboriously slow needs precision and skill of very high calibre. The box has been fitted with a lift-out tray. The box has a working lock and key. Crack on top veneer. Circa 1815.Enlarge Picture JB407: William IV/early Victorian box veneered in strongly figured rosewood and edged in rounded brass, which defines the lines and strengthens the structure. Inside the original tray has been fitted with additional velvet pads. The flap on the inside top lid retains the original leather complete with fine gold embossed decoration in the neoclassical tradition. It opens down to an 'envelope' lined in original pink paper. Veneer cracking on top not affecting the structure. The box has a working lock and key. Circa 1835. Enlarge Picture JB408: Regency box veneered in figured rosewood and decorated with strips of brass with cut out star motifs. Symmetrical restrained decoration of this type is typical of the early part of the 19th century. The box has a lower pull-out drawer with a central brass handle. The top part interior has been separated and lined. The leather cover on the ‘envelope’ compartment on the inside top lid is original and it is embossed in a neoclassical design incorporating anthemia and palmettes. When it is folded down it reveals a mirror. The mirror is a new addition, although it sits in the alcove originally intended for a mirror. Some cracking to top veneer. The box has a working lock and key. Circa 1815. Enlarge Picture JB409: Early 19th century box veneered in alternating stripes of satinwood and rosewood and decorated with cut steel pins, faceted in the manner of precious stones. The escutcheon and central inset are in mother of pearl. Although the cut steel fine decoration is usually associated with French Palais Royale work, this is an English box possibly decorated by French highly skilled craftsmen working in England. The box has been fitted with a lift-out tray. The box has a working lock and key. Circa 1815. Enlarge Picture JB410: Early 19th century box veneered with exceptionally beautifully figured rosewood. The box is edged in rounded brass and further enhanced with two lines of brass stringing. It has brass handles to the sides. There is a lower drawer with a separate lock to the front. This is divided in three compartments. The top part of the box has a lift-out tray and a flap-down envelope compartment. Both retain the original lining of green leather and velvet. The maker's label is visible stuck on the inside of the flap. The lower inside of the box is also covered in the original leather. Small veneer cracks to the top. JB313: A figured rosewood veneered box with rounded edges, white metal (pewter) and mother of pearl accents having two liftout trays fitted for jewelry. Inside the lid is lined with ruched satin framed with gold embossed leather and opens down to a document wallet. The lower drawer which is separately locked using the same key as the box, is a writing box with Tyrian purple writing surface compartments for writing implements and paper. Circa 1845. JB302: Antique figured rosewood box with rounded edges, inlaid to the top and front with fine inlays of mother of pearl and white metal depicting stylized curved foliage, the box having a liftout tray, a separately locked side drawer fitted for jewelry, and in the lid a document wallet with gold tooling and velvet. The box was made by T. Dalton, Manufacturer, 65 the Quadrant, Regent Street, London, Circa 1835.  Enlarge Picture JB303: A figured walnut table cabinet with double doors to the front opening to reveal a drawer fitted for jewelry The box/cabinet also has a compartmentalized lift out tray with supplementary lids covered in red satin.
